Seminar: Introduction to EU Asylum and Migration Law - Luxembourg, 6-7 June 2017

It examines the core principles, concepts and EU-specific institutions relating to asylum and refugee law as evolved in the EU’s Common European Asylum System (CEAS).

This will be complemented by an introduction to policy considerations and legal concepts relating to regular and irregular migration. The challenges of policy formulation and the regulation of asylum matters will be discussed, as well as EU’s new legislative and policy responses to the current ‘migration crisis’ – a crisis that does not merely pose a challenge in itself but also entails much broader questions about Europe’s future, identity and responsibility.

You will gain a thorough understanding of:

• EU law and policy relating to asylum and migration;

• the key issues pertaining to the recent ‘migration crisis’;

• the European and national responses to the ‘migration crisis’.
